II Workshop of Thesis and Dissertation

The Workshop of ongoing Thesis and Dissertation in HCI is a forum dedicated to the presentation and discussion of masters and doctoral researches in Human-Computer Interaction being developed in Graduate Programs.

The Workshop’s main objective is to provide a rich and dynamic environment for:

i) promoting the visibility and the improvement of researches in progress;

ii) offering feedback and suggestions from senior researchers in the field;

iii) enabling students to improve their academic writing and presentation skills científicos;

iv) encouraging the exchange of ideas, integration and cooperation among students and researchers;

v) promoting the discussion and presentation of new and challenging ideas.

Submissions must report ongoing researches only. Completed research works or works at an advanced stage of conclusion are outside the scope of the workshop. Therefore, it is eligible for submission masters and doctorate research works, preferably:

•   Doctoral researches with a defined proposal (not necessarily approved), that are in the second or third year;

•  Masters researchers to be concluded after December 2015.

Papers can be submitted to the Workshop even if an extended version of the paper has been submitted to the IHC2015 Full Papers track. Submissions can be written either in English or Portuguese.

Submissions

Authors should submit a document, consisting of:

1. Cover letter, containing:

• Title

• Student’s Name

• Supervisor’s name

• Category (Masters or PhD)

• Graduate Program

• Student’s e-mail contact

• Supervisor’s e-mail

• Current period in the program

• Expected conclusion date (month-year)

• Schedule of activities, highlighting the completed steps (qualification, proposal, etc.), the current stage, and pointing out the next steps

• Abstract, in English or Portuguese

• Keywords

2. Extended abstract, up to four (4) pages size (including figures, tables, diagrams, references and appendices),following the template of ACM SIGCHI adopted by IHC2015. It is expected the abstract to present:

• Research problem and the study's goal/purpose;

• Theoretical basis underlying the research and comparison of the proposed research with related work;

• Envisaged solution to the problem in question;

• Research methodology explaining how the work will be developed and evaluated;

• Expected contributions.

The two items above must be submitted in a single PDF document through the JEMS System. Submissions in a format other than PDF, exceeding the number of pages, or not following the required template will not be considered for evaluation. Submissions must follow the template of ACM SIGCHI.

Review Process

Each submission will be reviewed by at least three researchers. In case of disparities, a senior reviewer will conduct a meta-review to support the final decision. In the case of acceptance, the revisions must be considered and followed by the authors when preparing the final version of their papers.

Presentation:

Selected papers will be presented and discussed during the Workshop with members of the program committee and invited researchers. The acceptance implies conference registration and presentation of the work by the student, as the workshop is intended to be a forum for debate on ongoing works.

Accepted papers will be published in the extended proceedings of IHC2015, subject to the presentation of the paper at the event. In order to promote the visibility of the accepted works, extended and revised versions of papers presented at the Workshop will be invited for publication in a special issue of an open access journal.
